I am a writer. Yes, I write because I love it, but there is a stark reality about being a writer that most people don’t realize: You write because you have no other choice. You must. It is what you do, it is who you are.
And, no, I don’t have time to write! I work full-time, I have three teenagers, who are home often enough to keep the waters constantly roiled, my husband is a work-from-home artist, I have a dog, and a garden. No one cleans the house but me. And yet, I write.
My husband set this blog up for me, so that I’d stop posting lengthy comments on my FaceBook page. This is much more fun.
Other things you might be interested to learn about me (and this “About” section is uncomfortable. Do you really want to know this? I suspect my blog posts and choices of photos are more than enough information. But Husband says that “About” must be addressed.): I am passionate about animals, wild and domesticated. If I could choose a career, it would be one in service to them. I believe in the humane raising of livestock. I am an organic gardener. I loved being a stay-at-home mom more than anything else I have ever done in my life. I think I was good at it.
I am a skilled angler. I prefer fishing for perch from a rowboat or standing in warm surf waiting for a bluefish strike, to the more elegant, picturesque flyfishing (probably because I’m a good caster but not a good catcher).
I would rather be outside than in, I would rather be cooking than eating, and I wish I had more time for everything.
I’ll edit this, I promise. Too long, too indulgent, and almost certainly not useful to you. Please read the blog posts instead.
Hi Amy,
An FYI. I just found this out from someone and we immediately discovered that other former Scholastic people didn’t know. You might already know, but I thought I’d pass it along anyway just in case.

He was a good fellow, one of those rare people with no malevolence in him.
Signed,
That same pesky former acquaintance you probably never wanted to hear from again who once wrote to you about David Bowman.
Hi — thank you so much for passing this link on to me. Another former Scholastic alum sent it to me earlier, and I was so sad to hear the news. I agree that he was a very good person and certainly contributed enormously to the software division. I am having a hard time thinking on anyone I would NOT want to hear from, from Scholastic! Hoping you will let me know who you are!
